Father’s Day is June 20th. What a great day, we get to be even more selfish than normal and maybe even get a present too. I have to guess that many of you reading this are fathers so I have some great gift ideas for you to hint around at.
The old standard gifts like shaving cream, socks or a tie are getting old. Change things up this year and get something really fantastic like fishing tackle. Hank’s bait and tackle in Waterloo has a great selection that will fit about any budget and has a very knowledgeable staff to help. Just hint around that some of the hot new bass lures would be great or some of Terry’s fish killers for crappies and walleyes would fit in your tackle box nicely.
Boating accessories make great gifts as well. Barb at Waterloo Boats has some super ideas that are sure to please, like boat cleaners and wax. Your kids could not only get the cleaning supplies but also provide the labor while you sit in your lawn chair sipping on a cold beverage making sure they don’t miss a spot.
If you have a honey-do list that's keeping you from going fishing then maybe when your kids are done washing and waxing the boat they could handle a few items on the list (good luck with that one).
A subscription to a fishing magazine makes a great gift that doesn’t require anyone to break into a sweat and lasts all year. If you are a bass fisherman or a walleye angler, or want to become either of these, then a membership to the Cedar Valley Bassmasters or the Cedar Valley Walleye club would be a magnificent present. You can get information about the bass club by calling Steve Vanhauen at 319-290-6724 or the walleye club by calling Pat Wagner at 319-277-1412.
The most wonderful Father’s Day gifts that I ever received were from my son a few years back when he was young. He went out to the yard and picked out fishing lucky charms; one year it was a pine cone that he said was full of luck, the other year it was a rock that he said was the luckiest rock in the whole world.
These are the Father’s Days that I cherish the most. It's not all about the material items you receive or give to your dad but the thought and love that are put into them. Until next time keep your lure wet! |
